The resource-focused view.

How to learn to see what’s going well – and strengthen it intentionally.

In challenging times our gaze automatically turns towards what is missing, sticking, or stressful. But those who see only problems easily overlook their own sources of strength. The resource-focused view is an invitation to ask yourself deliberately: What is going well? What gives me energy? What do I succeed at again and again — perhaps even quietly?

Psychologically, resources are inner and outer strengths we can draw on — like a good conversation, a clear decision, a moment of calm. Those who learn to spot and appreciate them strengthen their sense of self-efficacy and, with it, their resilience.

Seeing resources means:

  • Noticing impact rather than deficit

  • Building on strengthening behaviour rather than only ‘fixing’ weaknesses

  • Looking at your everyday with new eyes

Practical tip: what you strengthen grows stronger. The resource-focused view is not whitewashing — it is a realistic, supportive look at what carries you.
